How the CDL School Finder Works
You don't need a school in mind yet. Tell the CDL school finder which license you want and where you live, and it does the comparing for you.
You Answer Six Questions
Your license class, where you want to train, the training you still need, the job you picture, what matters most and anything else worth knowing.
We Check 4,497 Locations
The finder keeps the schools registered for your license and training, close to you, then reads what we know about each one against your answers.
You Get Five Matches
Each match shows a match percentage, what the school is registered to teach, any published price and a link to its listing on our site.
What Our CDL School Finder Looks at
Every school in the finder is on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry as of August 5, 2026. That registry is the only list of schools allowed to give the entry-level training you need before your CDL skills test.
Your License Class
3,284 locations are registered for Class A training and 3,652 for Class B. Not sure yet? The finder looks at both.
Where You Train
Locations in 2,729 cities across all 50 states. Pick a city and the finder favors schools in it and in the same ZIP area.
The Training You Still Need
2,756 locations teach the full Class A course: classroom, range and road. 329 more teach Class A range and road only.
The Job You Picture
2,756 locations train bus drivers and 1,843 teach HazMat theory, so bus and tanker goals change your matches.
What Matters to You
Price, evening or weekend classes, funding help, a public college or a short course. 30 schools have a checked Class A price.
Which CDL School Fits the Driving Job You Want?
Long-Haul and Regional Trucking
You'll need a Class A CDL. A school that teaches classroom, range and road in one place covers the whole federal entry-level course, and 2,756 locations in the finder teach that full Class A course. Our Class A CDL training guide covers what the course includes and how long it runs.
Local Delivery and Home Daily
Some local jobs need only a Class B, a shorter course that usually costs less. But plenty of local freight still runs on tractor-trailers. 3,652 locations train for Class B. Start with our Class B CDL training guide to see which license your target jobs ask for.
School Bus and City Bus
Bus drivers need a passenger endorsement, plus a school bus endorsement for school routes. 2,310 locations are registered for school bus training. If you already know the district or transit agency you want to drive for, ask whether it trains new hires before you pay a school. See our best CDL schools for bus drivers.
HazMat and Tanker Work
A HazMat endorsement needs its own theory training and a TSA background check on top of your CDL. 1,843 locations teach HazMat theory. Tanker and other endorsements are explained in our CDL endorsements guide, so you can plan them before or after school.
What Does CDL School Cost?
Across the 30 schools where we checked a published Class A price, the median is $4,938, from $1,500 to $8,500. Public colleges often sit at the low end, and 697 college or technical school locations teach the full Class A course.
Our Class A CDL school cost report breaks the prices down, and our guides to CDL schools that accept WIOA and grants and paid CDL training cover ways to lower the bill.
