What We Check
Every school shown on a location page is checked against the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry. We read the location-level record, because a provider can offer different training at different campuses. We then look for a program-specific source, published price, hours, duration, schedule, funding information, and the applicable state oversight record.
A listing in the federal registry means the provider has registered and self-certified that it meets federal requirements. It does not mean FMCSA has rated, endorsed, or certified the school's quality. That distinction shapes both our language and our scoring.
How Rankings Work
A school must first meet the exact-location full Class A requirements and have a program-specific source. Eligible schools then receive points for published price, hours, duration, schedule or start cadence, and a sourced funding route. We publish the program information score beside every ranked listing and explain every point in our CDL school ranking methodology.
The score shows how much enrollment-planning information you can verify before choosing a school. It is not a claim about teaching quality, road-test pass rates, safety, completion, or job placement.
Where the Numbers Come From
- FMCSA Training Provider Registry records for locations and training types
- State licensing, approval, or consumer-disclosure systems where available
- Official school catalogs and program pages for price, hours, schedules, and funding options
- Bureau of Labor Statistics wage and employment estimates for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers
Source dates appear on the relevant page. Prices and schedules can change, so prospective students should confirm the full cost, start date, equipment policy, and refund terms with the school before paying.
